Founded in early 1999, PlanetSquires Software made an immediate impact in the programming community with the iintroduction of the Cheetah Database System - an ultra fast, small, efficient, xbase database and index manager. Hundreds of programmers flocked to the new system because it provided great power and speed in a pure Windows DLL under 65K in size.
Building on the success of the Cheetah Database System, the JellyFish Pro Editor for PowerBASIC compilers was released shortly thereafter. JellyFish has become a staple in the PowerBASIC community and represents one of the best general purpose code editing environments available. It sports features that many PowerBASIC programmers could not get in the default editor that shipped with the PowerBASIC compiler. The editor was, and still is, a resounding success (A FreeBASIC version named, JellyFB, can be found here).
In April of 2004, the flagship of the PlanetSquires Software product line was released. The FireFly Visual Designer represented several years of intense programming effort. Never before had the PowerBASIC programming language been exposed to such a powerful visual form designer and code editing environment. FireFly remains a faithful companion of hundreds of PowerBASIC programmers. It is depended upon by companies, governments, schools, academics, and programmers of all skill levels to create small, fast and efficient Windows applications.
Most recently, PlanetSquires has released a totally open source, freely available, SQLitening Database System package. This software allows the very popular SQLite3 SQL database engine to be run in client/server mode over a network or the Internet. Using SQLite in a client/server environment allows for better scalability and alleviates many of the locking and timeout issues associated with trying to use SQLite in a multiuser environment.
